The May 30th Anguilla Day Boat Race is an 8-hour long Round-the-Island race and one of the island’s most intense races of the season.
Anguillians come home during this time from the USA, USVI, BVI and UK, to name a few to celebrate the annual Anguilla Day, May 30.
Thousands follow the race on private boats and transformed barge party boats equipt with music, food and drinks.
It’s also fun following the races on land moving from spot to spot and beach to beach with binoculars. You get to witness passion in the debates about who will win then, everyone head to Sandy Ground to see their boat cross the finish line.
The sailors spend the full 8 hours on their boats (yes they have to eat and, some even get to sleep on the boat during this time) manouvering, tacking and trying their best to lead the race and come out victorious.
