Elliot Webster B Class Boat Race
April 12 , 9:00 am – 10:00 am

In honour of the late Elliot Webster, this race starts from Sandy Ground and ends in Island Harbour and is part of the Festival Del Mar activities.
In 2013, when twelve pioneers of boat racing were honoured in West End, Island Harbour – the sister fishing and boat racing village at the other extreme end of the island – celebrated the memory of its boat racing stalwart with the Annual Easter Sunday Elliot Webster Memorial Race from Road Bay.
Though ever so unassuming, humble, polite and respectful, Elliot was Anguilla’s indisputable unofficial boat racing chronicler, historian and authority. He recorded and could recall from memory every aspect of every boat race that ever took place as far back as anyone could remember.
Because of his great love of the sea and boats, being a fisherman, he had developed an intenselove or passion for and deep knowledge and understanding of sailboat racing, Anguilla’s national sport. And, because of the immense popularity and the intricacies of the sport, many enthusiasts flocked to him to adjudicate in disputes; or, to recall a race in its entirety; or, to set inquirers rightabout a specific race.
