Trek Katouche Trail and Cave

with Pure Anguilla

A QUEST Partnered Experience

Hike and Climb through Katouche – an 80-acre estate that comprises “one of the most diverse life experiences on Anguilla” and is often referred to as the “rainforest” of Anguilla.

It is one of the only places on the island where trees tower overhead and foliage that is typically low scrub, grows to several times their height. It is also thought that almost every plant indigenous to Anguilla can be found on that estate.

Learn about the many medicinal and household uses of plants and their many uses locally or climb into the caves “Cavannaugh” and/or “Katouche” and learn about the 300-500lbs rodent which once inhabited both caves.

Need transportation to this experience? Round trip cost per person is US$20.

Katouche Valley Hiking Tour

The estate boasts 2 incredible caves: “Cavannaugh” and “Katouche”. The hiking tour takes you to one of them, Cavannaugh. Cavannaugh cave (pronounced Gavannah) offers a walk-in experience of this huge open cavern out of which an incredibly tall fig tree grows and exits out of the top of the cave with its root system travelling almost a quarter-mile along the surface of the cave.

This cave was the only place where the approximately 20,000-year-old remains of the now-extinct rodent, the “Amblirhyza Inundata” which grew to between 300-500 lbs, were unearthed. It is now mounted at the Smithsonian. This hiking tour lasts just about 1.5 hours and ends at Katouche Bay.
