Moko Jumbie Stilt Walking

A QUEST Curated Experience

The Moko Jumbie is a staple for Anguilla’s carnival. So much so that it is prominently positioned on the Anguilla Summer Festival logo. Learn the basics of stilt walking. Beginner stilts adds 2ft to your height.

History of the Moko Jumbie

The Moko Jumbie has its origins in our African ancestry. The Moko was seen as a healer/god who towered over the villagers protecting them. Throughout the Caribbean, Moko Jumbies are seen during carnival – the event commemorating emancipation from slavery. They tower over the crowd of revellers performing gravity-defying movements atop their stilts – some of which could be as long as 8ft.
